King Size Bed Dimensions -Confusing!

A standard king is also known as Eastern King while a California King is known as a Western King. The width of a Standard King is about 4" while the length of a California King is about 4". While the King size bed dimensions don't seem to be very different, a few inches can make a large difference.

The Dimensions of a king size bed will allow the equivalent personal sleeping space for two persons as that of a Twin bed. When you combine a pair of Extra-Long Twin beds, their dimensions would be the same as that of an Eastern King. If you have sufficient floor space in a guest room, it is advisable to use two separate extra-long twin beds for singles or combine those two beds for couples to form a King bed.

You have to be mindful while buying sheets so that they are of the right size for your bed. Flat sheets normally fit both the Standard King beds as well as the California King beds whereas the fitted sheets are cut to fit a particular type of bed. It may so happen that the linens might not fit exactly. To avoid that, take exact measurements of your bed before you are set out to shop.

Standard King Size Bed Dimensions:

It is also known as Eastern king Bed. They are the same length as that of a Queen bed but are 16" wider than them. It is sold with one mattress and two box springs or frames and hence enables easier movement.

Pros: It is the widest bed available in stores and has sufficient sleeping space for 2 adults as the length is 80". To use sheets on Standard King Beds, those sheets labeled as “King Size” would fit well.

Cons: Due to its larger size, a single person might find it difficult to move the bed all by himself and it is hard to take the bed upstairs in a home with narrow, winding hallways or with smaller rooms. If you are a very tall person, King size bed might not be sufficiently long enough. Among all the bedding, King Sizes are the most expensive. Besides this cost, you will have to spend more to purchase at least two king or queen pillows or 3 standard pillows for the wider bed.

California King Size Bed Dimensions:

Similar to the Standard King Beds, California King Bed set has one mattress and two box springs making it easily manageable to move. Even a very tall single person can sleep in it from corner to corner without any discomfort.
